Why let an agent direct a demo? #
Your coding agent already knows the feature it just built: which screens changed, what the new button does, which test account has the right data. Asking it to record a demo is a natural last step after write the code and write the release notes.
DemoReady gives the agent a browser built for recording. Each step comes back as a screenshot with numbered elements. The agent decides what to click and type, and DemoReady performs it with a smooth cursor, spotlights and captions, then cuts out the time the agent spent thinking.
Setup in one sentence #
Paste this into your agent:
Read https://demoready.ai/docs.md and set up DemoReady for me.
It reads the setup guide, adds the demoready-mcp connector with the right command for its own client, and asks you to run npx -y demoready-mcp login once to save your API key. Manual setup for each client:
- Claude Code:
claude mcp add --scope user demoready -- npx -y demoready-mcp - Codex: a
[mcp_servers.demoready]entry in~/.codex/config.toml(with longer tool timeouts for encoding) - Cursor, Claude Desktop, Windsurf, VS Code: a standard
mcpServersJSON entry runningnpx -y demoready-mcp
What a session looks like #
demo_openopens your app off camera and returns a screenshot with numbered elements. The agent can log in or set up data here; nothing is recorded yet.demo_record_startplays an intro card and starts recording.- For each scene,
demo_sceneputs a caption on screen (and an optional spoken line), anddemo_actperforms clicks, typing and scrolling.demo_moveruns ready-made moves such as touring a section or walking through a list of items, paced to the narration. demo_finishplays the outro, mixes the voice-over and encodes the video into your library.
Ask in plain language, for example:
- "Record a 3-scene demo of localhost:3000 showing how to create a project and invite a teammate. Log in off camera with demo@acme.test first."
- "Record a narrated tour of our pricing page and finish by pointing to Start free trial."
Works with localhost #
Because the connector runs next to your agent, it can securely share the app running on your computer, so you can demo a feature before you deploy it. Read how localhost recording works.
Pricing #
MCP: $4.99/month for 10 agent-directed demos, or MCP Plus: $9.99/month for 30. Your agent does the directing, so there's no per-demo AI charge. Pro and Studio include MCP plus demos made by DemoReady's own AI in the web app. See pricing.
FAQ #
Which models work? #
Any model your MCP client runs that can read images, since every step returns a screenshot. Current Claude, GPT and Gemini models all qualify.
Does it cost tokens on my side? #
Your agent reads a screenshot per step, so a typical demo uses a modest amount of your agent's context. DemoReady doesn't call any AI model during MCP demos.
Is my API key safe? #
The recommended setup stores it in ~/.demoready/credentials.json, readable only by you, and you enter it in your own terminal rather than the agent chat. Keys can be revoked anytime in Settings.
